Founding Members

Prof Vrinda Nayak UoE

Vrinda is the Associate Dean for Taught Students (Racial Equality and Inclusion) for the University of Exeter and an academic at the College of Medicine and Health. She is part of the University`s Senior Education Leadership Team and supports the Success for All strand of the University’s Education Strategy that aims to widen the participation, eliminate degree awarding gaps and support diverse and inclusive learning environment. Vrinda joined the College of Medicine and Health in 2013. She was educated in India and has a PhD in Radiation Biology. She worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Bristol during 2003 – 2010 and published her research work in Biomedical Sciences field in reputed scientific journals. She gained the Principal Fellow Status of Advance HE in 2024 in recognition of her teaching and student support activities and she is an Exeter Education Incubator Fellow. She is part of the Steering Group that works on a British Council sponsored project on Decolonisng the Curriculum with Jadavpur University, India. She is keen to develop collaborations with international Higher Education Institutions with a particular focus on India on Transnational Educational projects.

Dr Winnie Nyinoh UoE

Iveren Winifred Nyinoh is a lecturer at the University of Exeter. She is a lecturer with several years of teaching experience and has been recognised by Advanced HE, UK as a Senior Fellow. She is also an Exeter Incubator Fellow and Global Classroom Fellow. With several years of teaching experience in higher education in Africa, Winnie is eager to explore collaborations with African higher education institutions, particularly in relation to global classrooms. She anticipates that African higher education will leverage global classrooms to expand student opportunities by networking with peers worldwide, collaborating on cultural exchange and research projects, and benefiting from teaching by global experts. Additionally, this approach will facilitate the sharing of best practices in teaching, ultimately enhancing the learning experience for students.

Dr Jun Jie Lim, University of Sheffield

Jun is specialised foundation doctor in medical education and the section editor of the British Student Doctor Journal. Prior to graduating, he studied and worked as a research assistant at Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia. He finds medical and clinical education research fascinating and is passionate about working on research projects. Jun aspires to undertake a PhD and pursue an academic career in medical education.

Prof (Dr.) Elsa Sanatombi Devi, MAHE, India

Current Positions: Director, MAHE FAIMER International Institute (M-FIILIPE), Deputy Director, Centre for Continuing Education and Interdisciplinary Development (CCEID), Centre Coordinator, Manipal Centre for Interprofessional Advanced Wound Care and Professor and Quality Management Representative (QMR), Manipal College of Nursing, MAHE.

Academic Credentials: PhD, M.Sc, MBA (Healthcare Services), Certified in Good  Clinical Practice (GCP), PG diploma in Guidance Counselling and Psychology, PG diploma in diabetes education.   

Fellowships: FAIMER Fellow, IFI Philadelphia, USA (2021), MAHE FAIMER Fellow (2016), Palliative Care, Pallium India (2022), Faculty exchange Program at MGH Boston USA under USIEF grant 2019.

Expertise: An accomplished academician and leader in healthcare education, Cultural Humility, Interprofessional Communication, wound care, and quality management. Dedicated to fostering leadership and innovation in education and healthcare. Awards and recognition: National Florence Nightingale awardee 2021, National Outstanding Educator’s award, most achieved Faculty award, Service Above Self award from Rotary Club for community service.

Prof Joanna Matthan, NuMed Malaysia

Joanna Matthan is Professor of Anatomy & Dean of Academic Affairs and Director of Education at Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia. She obtained her MA in English from the University of Oulu, Finland in 2000. She then completed her MB BS at Newcastle University, England in 2010. She furthered her education with a Postgraduate Certificate and Diploma in Clinical Education from Newcastle University in 2014 and 2015 respectively. In 2022, she was made a Fellow of the Anatomical Society (FAS). Most recently, in 2023, she was awarded the prestigious National Teaching Fellow (NTF) by Advance HE.

She has a background in Medicine and English and a previous career in the corporate world. She teaches anatomy to medical and dental students and is passionate about teaching enhancements that facilitate deeper learning to students. Her research interests range from anatomical themes to wider medical education ones across simulation and digital technology usage. Joanna’s  contributions to education have been widely recognized. In 2023, she was named a National Teaching Fellow by Advance HE and received the Team Award for Engagement and Place (Team Anatomy) from Newcastle University. She was also awarded the New Fellow of the Year Award 2023 by the Anatomical Society. In 2022, she received the Vice Chancellor’s Education Excellence Award for Individual Practice and was part of the Team Anatomy that won the Vice Chancellor’s Education Excellence Award at Newcastle University. She has also been shortlisted and nominated for various teaching excellence awards throughout her career, including Outstanding Contribution to Pastoral Support and Innovative Teaching Methods.

Dr. Amani Mansour Mohmad Alnimr, IAU Saudi Arabia

A Saudi Arabian Associate Professor and Consultant of Medical Microbiology at Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University. After medical qualification (IAU, Saudi Arabia) and MSc in Clinical Microbiology (Queen Mary University, London), she earned her PhD in infection from University College London in 2010, focusing on diagnostics of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Her research interests include diagnostics of respiratory tract pathogens, antimicrobial resistance detective and preventive tools, and the clinical utility of lab assays for infectious diseases.
Amani has held various administrative positions, including program director for the IAU residency in clinical microbiology and Deputy Chair for the infection control department at King Fahad University Hospital. She has published numerous peer-reviewed research articles and has given numerous conference presentations.
Dr. Alnimr is actively involved in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical trainees and is a member of several scientific societies. She also contributes to community service, providing consultations and educational programs on infection-related topics locally and globally. 

Student Interns

Dara Stanescu, Fifth year medical student, BMBS

Dara Stanescu is a final year medical student at the University of Exeter. She has a strong passion for Public Health, legal theory and Political Science and is particularly interested in how race, gender and class affect access to healthcare and how responses to the COVID-19 pandemic were organised at the global level. She has had several roles during her university degree, including the president of medical societies such as the Medical Wilderness Society, the Paediatrics Society and the Clinical Education society. She has a strong research interest in clinical medicine and has worked with NIHR bristol in the development of “Webster KE, Halicka M, Bowater RJ, Parkhouse TL, Stanescu D, Punniyakotty AV, et al. Effectiveness of stress management and relaxation interventions for the management of hypertension and prehypertension: a systematic review and network meta-analysis.” She also has been Biomedical Department officer in 2023-2024 and along Thomas, have helped in the creation of the Global Classrooms initiative.
