Dear Students,
Thank you very much for all of your contributions to our teaching and learning in HaSS Cornwall as we start approaching the end of term. We hope that you have in place a time management plan as we start approaching assessment deadlines. The HaSS Peer Mentors have put together a list of resources available to help with writing assessments, which are available below.
In the last week or so, we have had very constructive discussions with your SSLCs (Staff Student Liaisons Committees), which appear to have been doing a fantastic job at collating your views of your student experience and sharing them with us.
In the SSLCs across all of our Department subjects, we have learned more about the challenges students are facing particularly in relation to timetabling and study abroad information. We are taking your concerns very seriously and feeding into processes across Campus to try to get things fixed. Please take note that many of the issues concerning you, as students, are also issues for staff and unfortunately outside of the Department’s direct control. They therefore are not at all a consequence of the restructure. We will continue to lobby for changes to University systems on everyone’s behalf.
We have also learned lots positive things from your SSLCs. Many of you are enjoying being back to face-to-face teaching and are finding the course material you are studying intellectually stimulating. We are very pleased to be a part of your learning journeys.
We look forward to continuing to work constructively with the SSLCs to make sure your voices are heard, and that we take appropriate actions to give you an excellent learning experience.
Once more, let us apologise if the nationwide strike of University lecturers is disrupting your education. You can find more information about teach-outs for the 30 November day of action at this link.
Have a great week!
All best wishes
Prof. Clare Saunders
Head of Humanities and Social Sciences
