AHRC IAA-funded Project The Lower Otter Restoration Project in Translation considers how cultural production and intercultural dialogue can communicate climate adaptation projects to a broader audience. Dr Natália Pinazza, in partnership with the Environment Agency, mapped and collected creative responses to The Lower Otter Restoration Project (LORP), a pioneering climate adaptation project launched in March 2024 in Budleigh Salterton. Because LORP speaks to global concerns, particularly flood prevention, The Lower Otter Restoration Project in Translation also explored the role of the intercultural dialogue between the UK and Brazil when transmitting knowledge and expertise acquired in climate adaptation projects.
The project’s exhibition in November 2024 garnered attention and has been published in local media outlets such as Devon Live and Exmouth Journal. The exhibition testified to the impact of climate adaptation projects on the local community and biodiversity in the region. It also showed how local artists registered the transformations engendered by the project and documented these changes through songs, textile art, illustrations, and photography.
