Pastoral Mentor

Abby has over 20 years’ experience providing academic mentoring skills and pastoral care for young adults in a wide range of educational settings. She is passionate about inclusivity, supporting the wellbeing and future life chances of learners and is a trained mental health first aider. Abby joined the University of Exeter in August 2024 and as Pastoral Mentor for the Department of Maths & Statistics, she proactively engages with undergraduate and postgraduate students to enhance their university experience and success through individualised guidance and support. By bridging gaps between university services, she is able to prioritise student wellbeing and foster a sense of community and belonging. Abby collaborates closely with the Harrison Hub, Education Welfare Team, and Academics within the department to develop action plans and academic support systems, aiming to improve student attendance, engagement, and outcomes, allowing for an inclusive, supportive, and accessible academic community. Abby is also part of the departmental WIDER group, the University Mental Health Charter staff focus group, and has recently initiated Wellness Wednesday, games café style sessions for students.
