Your GP can provide you with advice regarding alcohol problems and referral for further support locally.

NHS directories can be used to search for local support services including NHS England, NHS Direct Wales, NHS Inform Scotland, Health and Social Care Northern Ireland.


Alcohol Change UK are leading UK alcohol charity, formed from the merger of Alcohol Concern and Alcohol Research UK. Their website hosts useful resources and information.


Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) offer a 24/7 helpline (0800 9177 650), an email service (help@aamail.org), or live chat via their website. Here, you can also search for details of meetings in your area or details of online global meetings. AA offer women only meetings and meetings in languages other than English.


Dual Diagnosis Hub offer recovery resources and signposting for individuals with co-occuring mental health and addiction issues. To learn more and access their resources you can visit their website here.

Drinkline is a free, confidential helpline for those concerned about their own drinking, or about someone else’s. (0300 123 1110 – 9am-8pm weekdays, 11am-4pm weekends.


SMART Recovery hold face to face and online meetings, to support people to manage harmful addictive behaviour. The programme also helps family members and loved ones of those who are struggling. They have women only and LGBTQ+ meetings. You can join a SMART Recovery meeting online here.


Al-Anon offers support and understanding to the families and friends of dependent drinkers. Their helpline is open from 10am-10pm (0800 0086 811) and lots more resources can be found on their website.

DAN 24/7 is a service accessible to those based in Wales. They can be contacted any time of the day and night via telephone (0800 808 2234), or text DAN to: 81066.


Nacoa support anyone affected by their parent(s) drinking, including adults.
