Dr Steven J Shaw, University of Bristol

Steven (he/him) is a Research Associate at the Szczelkun Lab, University of Bristol and is funded through the MultiDefence project.

His recent work was on the EPICut project which focuses on mechanistic studies of Type IV restriction endonucleases, a type of Restriction-Modification (R-M) system that specifically targets modified DNA. He characterises enzyme function by a combination of biophysical and biochemical approaches to elucidate their mechanism which may provide insights into these understudied R-M system and their biological relevance against phages.
