Multi-layered bacterial genome defences

Dr Rosanna Wright, University of Manchester

Rosanna (she/her) is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Brockhurst Lab at the University of Manchester and is associated with the MultiDefence project.

Her research explores the fundamental ecology and evolutionary dynamics of bacteria-phage interactions to inform the rational design of phage therapeutics. During my PhD (2014-2018), I focussed on de novo phage resistance (e.g., surface modification), finding that functional diversity of phage combinations is key to limiting resistance evolution. In my current postdoc role, I am investigating how the presence of adaptive immunity (i.e. CRISPR-Cas) might limit efficacy of phage cocktails.
