Multi-layered bacterial genome defences

Dr Anna Olina, University of Exeter

Anna (she/her) is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Westra Lab at the University of Exeter and is funded through the MultiDefence project.

Anna completed a master’s program in Plant Physiology at Moscow State University studying plant secondary metabolism. During her PhD at the Institute of Molecular Genetics, Moscow, she was focusing on bacterial defence systems, with a particular interest in Argonaute proteins. Currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Exeter, Anna’s research concentrates on understanding the interplay between prokaryotic defence systems within a single cell. She is especially interested in the roles of defence systems encoded within mobile genetic elements and their contributions to anti-phage defence. Connect with Anna via @AnyaOlina.
