The Only Gay in the Village?
Love and Sex between Men in Southwest England 1967 – 1987. Tell Your Story.
A DOCTORAL RESEARCH PROJECT
I am seeking to interview men from the LGBTQ+ community who spent a significant amount of their time in Southwest England between the partial decriminalisation of male homosexuality in 1967 and the introduction of Section 28 in 1987.
Your story matters! Record your experiences of love, hate, support, discrimination and activism. Let the world know about the people you met in public and private spaces before the days of the internet. Tell the story of how the lives of men changed within the LGBTQ+ community outside of London.
WHY TAKE PART?
· Add your memories to an increasing LGBTQ+ archive
· Help to educate future generations
· Make sure your experiences are remembered
WHO CAN CONTRIBUTE?
· Men from the LGBTQ+ community who spent a significant amount of time in Dorset, Somerset, Devon or Cornwall between 1967 and 1987
· Anyone of any gender who may have been involved with these men, such as health workers, magistrates, journalists and political campaigners
WHEN AND WHERE?
· An initial brief phone call, Zoom or Teams meeting at a mutually convenient time
· A longer recorded interview in person or via Zoom or Teams
· In-person interviews to be carried out at a convenient place for you.
