Tech-and-Life Pal

Welcome to Tech-and-Life Pal

Tech-and-Life Pal is an ongoing research project led by Dr Yuxi Heluo at the University of Exeter. The project aims to enhance digital literacy among older adults while helping university students build wellbeing and practical life skills.

The program connects university students with older adults (aged 65 and above) from local communities to engage in collaborative learning activities. These sessions involve hands-on use of modern technology—such as smartphones, tablets, and computers—alongside guided conversations about essential life skills, including renting accommodation, managing bank accounts, and navigating utility services.

Tech-and-Life Pal has attracted significant media attention for its innovative approach to bridging generations through digital and life skills education. The project has been featured nationally on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, as well as regionally on BBC Spotlight, BBC Devon, and BBC Radio Devon. It has also been covered by a number of local outlets, such as Exmouth Journal, Devon Live, RADIO EXE DEVON, and other community news sources. This media coverage has brought widespread recognition to the project’s impact and its role in fostering meaningful intergenerational connections.
