VSimulators is supporting a pilot study led by Dr Amy Garner, NIHR BRC Mid-Career Fellow and consultant knee surgeon.
The knee MOvement, Balance and stabILITY study (MOBILITY) investigates functional outcomes for patients with arthritis of the knee and the impact of knee replacement surgery. Together with VSimulators, Amy and a specialist team from the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre: Exeter are exploring how innovative simulation technologies can enhance recovery pathways and patient care.
As part of this work, the first pilot session brought healthy control participants into the VSimulators environment. This pilot study is a vital step in establishing what ānormalā movement looks like, and the impact of osteoarthritis and knee replacement surgery on it.
VSimulators Research Director James Bassitt said: “Itās fantastic to see our facilities being used to support cutting-edge research that has the potential to make a meaningful difference to patient treatment, surgery, rehabilitation and quality of life.
“A big thank you to everyone involved in making the first session a success – weāre looking forward to seeing how this research develops!”
