A paper about a study using the VSimulators facility to explore how the timing of jumps is influenced by platform motion has now been published. Entitled Timing of human rhythmic jumping with vertical floor vibrations tends towards mechanically efficient solutions, the paper by former University of Exeter PhD student, Nimmy Mariam Abraham, is in the journal Scientific Reports.

The study explores how the timing of jumps is influenced by platform motion, an important factor to consider when estimating the impact of human activity on structures like bridges or sports stadia. Participants were tested jumping on both stationary and vibrating platforms and were cued with a metronome.
