The University of Exeter, surrounded by beautiful botanical gardens and historic buildings, is highly accessible to ALT members from all over the UK. The university is a 10-minute walk from Exeter St Davids station, which has regular trains operated by Great Western Railway, South Western Railway, and CrossCountry running each day, linking Exeter with two direct service routes to and from London, services to/from Cardiff Central via Bristol Temple Meads and further long-distance services operated by CrossCountry between Exeter and Birmingham New Street, Manchester Piccadilly, Sheffield, Leeds, York, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen.
The university offers technology rich meeting spaces and a range of venues for conferences and events. The ALT Annual Conference will be held within our flagship Forum building with programme events scheduled to take place within its meeting, seminar, function and exhibition rooms and in the main lecture theatre, the Alumni Auditorium. The university offers comprehensive AV and IT resources with technical support as required, free WiFi and a choice of dining and hospitality venues.
There are many things to do in Exeter and a choice of excellent shopping, dining and cultural venues for delegates arriving at the conference early or those staying on after the conference to explore the city (particularly, international delegates), including the Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery, Exeter Cathedral and Exeter’s Underground Passages. Delegates can check the Visit Exeter website for things to do / places to shop / culture to experience.
All conference events will take place within the Forum building which is a 15-minute walk from the City Centre. Outside of term time, university accommodation is available on campus (see ‘Where To Stay‘) and off campus with a university corporate code available for some hotel properties such as the Courtyard Marriott at Sandy Park, home of Exeter Chiefs. Public transport is available for any accommodation off campus or outside of the City Centre. Paid visitor parking is available on the Streatham Campus.
