Thirteen alumni and honorary graduates of the University of Exeter received awards in the 2024 New Year’s Honours. The honours system marks the extraordinary contributions and service of people across the UK and we’re very proud of all the members of our community who have been recognised in this way.

  • Mr Ashley D Tabor-King, CBE (Hon LLD, 2013)

    • CBE for services to Media and Entertainment
  • Dr Gillian Tett, OBE (Hon D.Litt, 2016)
    • US Managing Editor at The Financial Times
    • MBE for services to Economic Journalism
  • Professor Robert Van De Noort, CBE (PhD by publication in Archaeology, 2011)
    • Vice-Chancellor of the University of Reading
    • CBE for services to Science, to Flood Risk Management and to Sustainability as Chair of the Thames Regional Flood and Coastal Committee

Two members of the University of Exeter academic community were also recognised. Professor Gareth Stansfield, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Executive Dean for the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, was awarded an OBE for services to UK interests in Iraq. And Professor Peter Stott, of the University of Exeter and the Met Office, was awarded an MBE for services to Climate Science.
