Celebrating the breadth and variety of practical work in the department

5 June 2026Juice: electricity; the essence or spirit of something; the liquor from the sugar cane; overwhelmingly good; respect; credibility; power; the ability to do anything…
We were thrilled to host the Juice Performance Platform Day on 1st June in Roborough Studios.
An afternoon of short works from the degree programme, shared with an audience of peers, industry guests and staff. The work included solo and duo performances as well as an MA Theatre Practice performance I Can Walk In Water by Genny Holloway, and a performance of Eclosion by 7-hander ensemble The Little Troupe. This piece was from the Practical Essay module, which is a final capstone at the end of the third year of study on the Drama degree at Exeter.
This was followed by a day of workshops and talks with industry partners about the creative industries possibilities open to our graduating students.
The Juice events on 1 and 2 June 2026 felt like a celebration of the live connectivity between higher education and the professional arts & culture world – a vital gathering space and opportunity to mentor and support the next generation. It was inspiring, connective, and galvanising.
The events brought together 30+ creative industries partners and staff from the University, alongside students and freelancers from across the south west.
Alongside the performance day, we hosted a Practitioners Call-out, run by our wonderful Erin Walcon of Doorstep Arts: https://doorsteparts.co.uk/sw-teaching-artists-practitioners-facilitators/
The whole Juice concept first emerged in 2019, and was slightly derailed in 2020, but we are thrilled to offer a bigger and broader version this year, with even more plans for Juice ’27! It could not happen without huge dedication from academic staff including Erin Walcon, Emily Kreider, Evelyn O’Malley, Wendy Hubbard and Nikki Sved along with support from the CDF Technical Team including Francis Parker, Jon Primrose and Chris Mearing.
