25 September 2026I’m delighted that illustrator Rose Forshall who teaches at Falmouth University has made some lovely images to illustrate my research.
I needed something that would add visual and emotional elements to the talks I do about cervical cerclage, to show some of the impact of preterm birth and the cerclage, and Rose’s images will really help. I asked her to make images to represent the project as a whole, the idea of anxiety in pregnancy, the idea of healthcare professionals trying to help women and families, and the idea of overwhelm in choice about pregnancy. I also asked for a more artistic representation of where the cervical stitch is in the body.
Rose and I recently presented on this work at the Paul Mellon Centre for British Art’s conference ‘Drawing as Knowledge: Practice, Theory and History’. We talked about how the images came about, and how the commissioning process affected the final images when my knowledge of reproductive politics joined Rose’s knowledge of drawing and illustration.
