Ash Roots and Helen Cocks, alongside Digital colleagues across the university attended THE’s Digital Universities UK at the University of Leeds from 17th to 20th April.

Digital Universities UK brought together over 700 higher education, industry and policy leaders working at the intersection of academic innovation and technology under one roof.

The event themes were:

  • Accelerating the digital campus
  • Digitally transforming the research experience
  • Human-centred student experience
  • Teaching, learning and assessment innovations

Across the four days, there were 10 sessions involving 5 UoE speakers – a mixture of panel discussions, presentations, workshops and invitation-only roundtables, and 7 UoE colleagues in attendance representing the university.

UoE sessions included:

  • Digital transformation: A non-higher education view of higher education (Ash Roots – panel discussion on 18th)
  • The parable of ‘reply all’: Facilitating sustainable digital transformation in universities (Professor Lisa Harris – panel discussion on 18th)
  • Facilitating sustainable digital transformation in universities (Professor Lisa Harris – Workshop on 18th)
  • Formative assessment strategies to improve student attainment (Dr Layal Hakim – Workshop on 18th)
  • Utilising strong digital transformation strategies to boost student success (Professor Lisa Harris – Roundtable on 18th)
  • Utilising smart technologies to nurture world-ready learners (Dr Layal Hakim – Roundtable on 18th)
  • THE and CIO UK dinner with Tech leaders (Ash Roots attended on 18th)
  • Using the humanities to bring your digital strategy to life (Ash Roots and Helen Cocks – Presentation on 19th)
  • Personalising student journeys with more agile, adaptable, and secure data (Professor Timothy Quine – Roundtable on 19th)
  • Digital Educator Network – (Professor Lisa Harris attended the first in person event on 19th)

Wins:

  • Lots of positive conversation and feedback about UoE’s work on digital
  • UoE were part of a new exclusive moment of digital transformation led by THE and CIO UK organisations
  • Showed how UoE can start to lead digital in the HE sector from a learning, experience and education (and research) standpoint
  • Showed the power of how humanities and digital can be used
  • Strong messages re: student and staff engagement in bringing the strategy to life through TikTok, Wireframe Wednesdays
  • Reached a combined audience of 395 through UoE sessions (potentially 395 new connections / followers to our digital journey)
  • Made strong progress with our strategic theme to become an authority on digital capability – multiple contacts and connections made from universities wanting to hear more about what we are doing, wanting to visit Exeter and us to visit their campuses
  • UoE has been confirmed as the host for Digital Universities UK event in 2024!
