For participants arriving early, we are suggesting some social activities on Sunday July 5, 2026. Weather permitting, members of the local organizing committee will join interested hikers on a circular walk on Dartmoor. Participants can expect a moderately strenuous hike over challenging terrain and should be prepared accordingly – bring sturdy boots, sun protection, water and snacks, and a map or GPS device. Please contact us if you are interested in this hike.

Alternative recommended activities include a steam railway and river cruise day trip to Dartmouth, a boat cruise along the Jurassic Coast, walks on the South West Coast Path or along the river Exe, a visit to Exeter Cathedral, and more.

None of these activities are formally organized by the local organizing committee or the University of Exeter, but we are providing suggested schedules to support coordination among conference participants. Attendance at any of the activities is on participants’ own risk and expenses. Some activities (e.g., steam train and cruise ships) need to be booked in advance directly with the respective third party.

When planning their activities for this day, people should keep in mind that there will be a Welcome Reception on Sunday evening.
