Haemochromatosis: genetic iron overload disease
Summary for patients
On this site we aim to provide the most accurate information to help patients with HFE gene variants understand their risk of haemochromatosis, using data from the UK Biobank study of 500,000 adults aged 40 to 70 years in the United Kingdom.
Haemochromatosis is one of the most common genetic diseases affecting patients of northern European ancestry. It is overdiagnosed in patients without iron overload and is underdiagnosed in many patients.
