This year Dr Natalie Ohana from Exeter Law School has been collaborating with multidisciplinary artist Tom Stockley as part of a Creative Fellowship exploring the 3rd year undergraduate module ‘Law, Testimony and Trauma’.

Inspired by his time collaborating with Natalie and through working with the students, Tom has created an exhibition at Exeter Phoenix which broadly explores traumatic events related to social oppression, such as racism, sexism, classism and xenophobia.

Exeter Phoenix, 3rd June – 2nd July 2023

Through examining and reassembling source material such as court notes, legal guides, eyewitness accounts, lyrics and essays, Tom sketches out their criticisms of an ongoing violence that is perpetuated by those in power, often hidden behind the softness of flowers and platitudes in the aftermath of preventable disasters and acts of oppression.

You can read more about the background to Tom’s work and the collaboration with Natalie and the students on the Arts and Culture Exeter website here.
