31 July 2023Thirteen students from schools in the South West, including Okehampton, Clyst Vale, Churston Ferrers and QE enjoyed an experiential day at Exeter Law School.
In the setting of the Moot Court, the students got to hear legal tips and advice first hand from a high court judge. Her Honour Judge Barlow (alumna Exeter) presided over a fictitious court hearing with alumni playing the parts of claimant/defendant and the students representing these clients. With only ten minutes to prepare, the students were impressive in delivering their arguments to the judge.
As part of the day, the students also got to meet local alumni from Michelmores, Woollens Solicitors and GA Solicitors to ask questions about their #PathwaystoLaw and to gain an understanding of careers open to them.
The day was part of a week of activities organised by SMBP, a social mobility charity who support school pupils from non-traditional backgrounds to experience working with business and universities. SMBP run a week of business and law-related activities in various cities, and this was the first time there had been a week in Exeter. Students from local schools enjoyed experiential days at SW Water, Exeter Chiefs, Princess Yachts and Foot Anstey LLP.
