Law Student prepares for the Cadet and Junior Commonwealth Games

If you love playing a sport at a high level and want to do well in your studies – how can you ensure a happy balance and achieve well in both? Jack Courtney is one of the many students drawn to the University’s excellent sporting reputation and facilities. Alongside his studies(LLB Law), Jack has been a competitive fencer for many years and is part of the University of Exeter Fencing team.

He’s been sharing how he shapes his Uni life to achieve his academic and sporting goals. He also describes how aspects of his fencing strategy helps him with his legal skills.

As well as competing as an international athlete, Jack is a Level 2 qualified referee for the sport and refereed recently at the British Fencing Youth Championships in Sheffield.

In July 2024 he will be going to New Zealand to represent England in the Cadet and Junior Commonwealth Fencing Championships, as an individual and as a team member.
