Brain activity and jury decisions

Researchers from the University of Exeter Law School are looking for adult volunteers to participate in research studies using brain imaging to better understand how people make decisions about legal evidence.

Participation will involve completion of a short online study (approximately 15 minutes) and completion of a decision-making task while undergoing an fMRI brain scan (approximately 60-75 minutes). Dates and times for participating are flexible, and participants who complete the study will receive £125 compensation for participation and expenses.

We need participants who:

  • are over the age of 18;
  • have lived in the UK, Channel Islands, or Isle of Man for at least 5 years since they were 13;
  • can speak and communicate clearly in English; and
  • have normal or corrected to normal vision.

You will not be able to participate if you cannot safely have an MRI scan. We will assess any circumstances that may mean an MRI scan is not safe for you (e.g. having metallic implants in your body) prior to you participating in the study.
