My name is Rose Arhin and I am a second year law student. I aspire to be a future lawyer and I am passionate about advocacy and representation which is why I chose to put myself forward for the role as the Communities and Equality Officer. I am excited about this role and I want to help foster a more inclusive and supportive environment for all students. Outside of my studies, I love to dance as I am a member of Legion Dance Society Exeter and I love to bake little treats for my friends.

What this role means to me

I am very excited and grateful for this role as it gives me the opportunity to contribute to building a more inclusive community in the university. As an ethnic student, my own experience of not always fitting in made my transition into university life challenging. Now, in this position, I hope to explore ways to help bridge those gaps and create a welcoming space for all students.

My aims and ambitions

A key focus for me is fostering inclusivity, ensuring that all students feel represented and valued. In my manifesto, I emphasized the importance of equity, student engagement and improving the overall student experience through strengthening our community. I am interested in working towards increasing awareness of inclusive food options on campus and encouraging more students, especially from underrepresented backgrounds, to engage with opportunities within the University. I am also keen to engage with the Law School to explore ways in which students can feel supported. This may include discussions around student wellbeing, academic representation and opportunities for professional development. There are already existing pathways such as Exeter Law Society, Diversity in Law and Women in Law societies that are helping create a bigger community but I aim to make these more accessible and known by students to improve participation. I look forward to working collaboratively with students and staff to help improve the law student experience in meaningful ways.

We wish Rose every success in this important role and look forward to working together to achieve these goals. Find out more about the Students’ Guild and how you can get involved on their webpages here.
