2 June 2025The living health traditions of the Caribbean, South America, and India are the research themes to be presented by Dr. Swati Gola from Exeter Law School at a British Academy event later this month. Alongside her will be multi-disciplinary artist Anne Madray.
The Summer Showcase is a free festival of ideas on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 June. There will be interactive exhibits and workshops, inspiring performances and screenings, and thought-provoking talks. These are delivered by researchers sharing innovative social sciences and humanities research that is shaping the society we live in, and informing the one we want to create.
Dr Gola’s work has been supported by funding from the British Academy and Leverhulme Small Research Grants.
Despite the colonial erosion of indigenous health knowledge, many communities have sustained their health traditions. Through samples of masala chai, rum and teas Swati and Anne will be celebrating the convergence of cultures and traditional health knowledge from the Caribbean, South America, and India.
The organisers encourage people to come along, try something new, and be inspired to think differently about the world around us.
