Careers in Public Policy and Government: 13 to 17 October 2025

Careers in the public sector, policy and government are some of the most popular graduate destinations.

Whether you are considering working in the Civil Service, or more locally within local government there are plenty of graduate job options, but these are not the only ones.  If you are interested in solving real-world problems that affect daily life such as education, health and national security you can also work for other public service agencies and public bodies such as the Health Service, Police, Think Tanks, intelligence services such as MI6 or GCHQ or research institutes to help shape policy.  

Starting on Monday 13 October, and throughout the week you can:

  • Explore job roles and potential employers
  • Gain insight from experienced alumni
  • Connect with employers and learn from their expertise
  • Build your networks

Here’s what’s coming up during the week: 

  • Monday 13 October
    • 5.30-6.45pm From Campus to Policy: Starting a Career at a Think Tank (virtual panel of alumni/employers)
  • Tuesday 14 October
    • 5.30-7.00pm Careers in Policy and Government, a virtual workshop run by the Institute for Government
  • Thursday 16 October
    • 10.30am–3.00pm Civil Service Fast Stream will be in the Forum for a drop-in:
    • 10.30am-1.00pm: Strategic Thinking skills in-person workshop
    • 3.00-4.30pm: Careers in Defence, Security and Intelligence sectors in-person lecture by Professor Frances Tammer
    • 5.30-8.00pm Leaders of Tomorrow: Alumni and Employers Connect networking event hosted by PolSoc with Exeter alumni and employers followed by a food and drinks reception in Career Zone
