23 September 2025Book your free academic writing tutorial with the Law School’s resident Royal Literary Fund Fellows Christopher Wakling and Roland Chambers!
This year Exeter Law School has the privilege of hosting TWO Royal Literary Fund (RLF) Fellows, Christopher Wakling and Roland Chambers. They are professional writers and editors who join us in the Law School for two days each, every week, to help students, from first years to postdocs, improve their academic writing skills.
Between them, Christopher and Roland are based in the Law School for four days a week and offer 1:1 academic writing tutorials for up to 50 minutes (free and confidential), with bespoke sessions focusing on particular aspects of your written communication.
Possible topics might include essay planning and structuring your argument; how to make a draft clearer and more economical; rewriting and editing; ‘writer’s block’; or even just understanding an essay question – whatever you, in conversation with Christopher or Roland, think would be most helpful. These sessions are intended to be useful however good your writing is. (Please note that this service is only available to students currently living in the UK. It is not suitable for those who require specialised English language help (eg TEFL, EAP), who should seek assistance from the university.)
Christopher holds sessions in Amory on Tuesdays and on Teams on Wednesdays. Roland holds sessions in Amory on Thursdays and Fridays. To arrange your tutorial, please email: chris.wakling@rlfeducation.org.uk or roland.chambers@rlfeducation.org.uk.
Feel free to email Christopher or Roland a sample of your writing in advance of your meeting. Alternatively, please have it available for the tutorial. If the sample is an essay, don’t forget to include the question.
