The Centre for Commercial and Corporate Law at the University of Exeter Law School hosted the BPP OC Annual Forum 2025 with representatives from OECD, ICGN, listed company and investor representatives as well as leading service providers from across the globe.

Professor Sergakis convened the Forum as Chairperson of the BPP OC and led the discussion on critical corporate governance themes, such as:

  • the importance of defending shareholder rights and supporting credible self-regulation
  • the importance of the Best Practice Principles as an international code of conduct and of the BPP OC in monitoring its application by signatory parties
  • the impact that BPP OC recommendations keep on having upon service providers
  • the current US trends in the area of proxy advisors and
  • the lessons and priorities for policy makers in this area

Professor Sergakis also announced the launch of the inaugural enforcement protocol by the BPP OC later this period, based on his forthcoming paper, co-authored with Prof. Anna Tilba, Durham University Business School.

The enforcement protocol sets a new international standard in this area, by further reinforcing the monitored self-regulation mechanism that the BPPG and BPP OC introduced in 2020.
