10 November 2025

We are now accepting student applications for the Middle Temple Access to Bar Awards 2025. This programme aims to support students from backgrounds which do not traditionally encourage aspirations for a career at the Bar.

Up to 30 successful applicants will receive 2 weeks of funded (£350 per week) work experience – one week is spent marshalling (i.e. shadowing a judge in court) and the other week in Chambers with a barrister. Please read the application guidance carefully to check eligibility and criteria prior to completing the application form (both the guidance and the form are available for download on the main ELE page for Employability here).

The University of Exeter Law School can select up to 2 applicants to be considered for the Access to the Bar Awards. In the past few years we have had a number of our students successfully receive the Award, all of who have reported it to be a very valuable experience! Should you wish to be considered, your completed application, transcript and 2 references should be emailed to Dr Louise Loder at l.m.loder@exeter.ac.uk, with the subject ‘Middle Temple Access to the Bar Award – Application [Your Name]’, by 11:59 pm on Tuesday 16 December 2025. Please note this scheme is not open to first years.
