Applications for Gray’s Inn’s GDL Scholarships are now open. If you are considering a career as a barrister, this is an opportunity to receive the recognition and financial support to fast-track your career.

This year we will award at least 25 GDL Scholarships to support students undertaking any full or part time law conversion course. We are also launching a new GDL Double Scholarship. This scholarship will offer aspiring barristers undertaking their law conversion course sustained financial support through both the academic (GDL) and vocational (Bar Course) components of Bar training.

All GDL scholars will receive at least £2,500, with further, means-tested, financial support available. Our GDL scholars are automatically eligible for a number of additional benefits when applying for a Bar Course Scholarship. If you are successful in securing a Double Scholarship, a financial award of £10,000 is guaranteed, and can rise to as much as £40,000 through our established means-tested process. Double Scholars will also be eligible to apply for a Residential Scholarship, in advance of their Bar course studies.

You can read more here about the financial support available for all GDL Scholarships.

They are more than happy to answer any questions you may have. You can contact them directly at scholarships@graysinn.org.uk.

GDL Scholarship Q&A

During the application period for the GDL scholarships, they hold a free-to-attend online Q&A session. This will be held on Wednesday 1 April 2026. (Details are on the page linked above, under the Scholarships Q&A dropdown.)

This will provide the opportunity for you to hear from interviewers and previous scholars about what to expect during the application and interview process.
