2 October 2023Our new Deputy Director of Global Engagement, Dr Chris O’Meara, visited China in September to promote Exeter Law School’s postgraduate taught (PGT) programmes.
Travelling to Chengdu, Xi’an, and Zhengzhou, Chris met with numerous Chinese counsellors who advise Chinese graduates on the UK higher education market and guide them in their choice of university and programme of study in the UK. Chris was able to explain the unique attractions of Exeter Law School for those Chinese students who are considering coming to the UK for postgraduate education. This included the full range of options, including our LLM Master of Laws, LLM Commercial Law, LLM International Law, and our new LLM Law and Business. He shared details of our diverse and inclusive world leading research community and the benefits to Chinese graduates of Exeter Law School’s internationally excellent research profile. In addition he spoke about our TEF Gold rated teaching, and the exceptional support we give to our PGT students, which allows them to pursue successful careers in the UK, China, and elsewhere.
The counsellors were hugely receptive to all that Exeter Law School has to offer and are spreading the news of our law programmes to prospective students, including on Chinese social media. While the focus of Chris’ trip was to promote our PGT programmes, there was also the opportunity to visit two international high schools in Chengdu to speak to students who are considering their university choices for next year and to let them know about the undergraduate LLB programmes available at Exeter Law School.
The students were incredibly welcoming and keen to hear about the wide range of options open to them, including opportunities to study in Exeter and spend a year abroad with one of our partner universities. The trip was a great opportunity to foster relations with Chinese counsellors and prospective students and to showcase the strengths of our outstanding Law School.
