Lead Mentor Training, Development and Consultation Updates

Materials and notes from our Training, Development & Consultation meetings.

Course Priorities 2022-23

Our course priorities are determined by our review and development processes, primarily:

  • Development and Consultation meetings with Lead Mentors, ITECs and ECTs
  • Student survey feedback
  • Comments from our External Examiners
  • Course completion/performance data
  • History tutor and UVT team meetings and reflections
  • Ofsted feedback

Our key priority this year is improving trainees’ experience of the coherence of the PGCE curriculum. The aim across our programmes is to ensure that all staff working with trainees have a foundational understanding of the curriculum and can support trainees in making links between the university-based and school-based learning.

Other priorities include:

  • Supporting employability
  • Developing confidence in teaching pupils with EAL, and teaching pupils from different ethnic backgrounds

History Lead Mentor Briefing Document 2022-23

2nd Nov 2022.

Thanks to everyone for their attendance, as always an interesting and lively discussion! I really enjoyed our discussion around mentoring and how we develop the mentoring curriculum. The discussion on how we build our curriculum from the CCF was particularly useful, especially at this point in their journey. The slides are below:

Please find the slides from our Spring Term meeting below. Sorry this clashed for a number of you, we’ll endeavour to find a better time for the next one, we’ll send out a poll nearer the time. Links to video have been emailed with the password. The discussion around trainee’s who need extra support and the best practice input was especially useful (thanks Sarah) and I hope this helps in thinking through some of that, do email if I can help. Trainee reflection was a particular focus in this discussion and we’ll follow this up in our next meeting in the summer term. I hope the term with the new trainee goes well, Will and I are looking forward to seeing you all in school soon.

It was really good to see so many of you at the meeting and I very much enjoyed our conversations, it felt like we really got into the nature of mentoring in history! Please find the slides from the meeting below. The discussions around our ‘virtual trainee’ were particularly good and if you haven’t yet had a chance to read through the scenario’s please do. I’ve also included the notes for the conversations around what actions and targets would result in our scenario WDM. My thanks as always and look forward to seeing you in school shortly.
