University of Exeter Sport is thrilled to announce the appointment of Gareth Elliott as the new Head of Men’s Rugby, following the retirement of Keith Flemming. With an extensive background in coaching and performance analysis, Gareth brings a wealth of experience that will undoubtedly contribute to the continued success of the university’s rugby programme.

Gareth’s journey with our partners at Exeter Chiefs began a decade ago when he joined as an Academy Coach and Performance Analyst. With an impressive track record, Gareth has proven his ability to excel both on and off the field. As forwards coach for the Premiership Cup winning side in 2023 (which included 4 of our current students), he showcased his strategic insights and leadership skills. Furthermore, his coaching prowess extended to the university level, where he guided the forward pack to triumph in the BUCS Super Rugby Championships for two consecutive seasons (2022 & 2023).

His passion for rugby, coupled with his proven ability to foster talent and drive success, aligns perfectly with the University of Exeter Sport’s mission to provide an outstanding sporting experience to players of all levels and ages.

“We are delighted to welcome Gareth Elliott as the new Head of Men’s Rugby,” said Alison Davidson, Director of Sport, University of Exeter. We are confident that under his leadership, the men’s rugby programme will continue to excel.”

Gareth’s appointment ushers in an exciting new chapter for the Rugby Performance Programme where he will work alongside our Head of Women’s Rugby, Poppy Leitch and be assisted by Rich Hodges. We wish him the best of luck in his new role, as we head into the new rugby season.
