The 2024 Netball Super League begins this weekend with all 10 teams playing 5 back-to-back games at the Nottingham Arena on Saturday 17th February. This year we have current University of Exeter students, staff and alumnae playing in the league and representing various franchises.

University of Exeter Head of Netball Laura Rudland starts the 2024 season as vice-captain of the newly named Cardiff Dragons. This is Laura’s third season with Dragons and with plenty to build on from last season the team hope to get their 2024 campaign off to a fantastic start in their first match against Saracens Mavericks.

We caught up with Laura to get her thoughts ahead of the new season:

The 2024 season is set to be one of the most competitive yet, teams have strengthened from last year and there will be some great match ups. At Dragons we have a new and exciting group, I am looking forward to seeing what we can do this year.”

Elsewhere in the league Rachael Fee, current University of Exeter BSc Nutrition student, has this year signed for Surrey Storm having previously represented Wasps and Severn Stars.

Likewise at Surrey Storm is University of Exeter alumnae Ellie Gibbons (BSc Exercise and Sport Sciences 2013-2016) who steps into a Super League contracted 12 for the first time, having previously been a training partner.

Finally, Betsy Creak (PGCE 2017-2018) also an Exeter alumna makes the move to Severn Stars following a successful stint at Team Bath.

Looking ahead to the opening weekend and her first game with Surrey Storm, Rachael commented

I’m really excited for this weekend, it’s always such a great atmosphere! We have had a great pre-season, and I can’t wait to show the netball community that a Storm is coming!

Rachael Fee, current student

Every match across the opening weekend is being shown on Sky Sports Mix and the Sky Sports YouTube channel. In addition to this for the first time this year one Super League game per round will be shown live on BBC iplayer, BBC Sport website and app. These games will then also be available to watch on demand.  Please tune in and support our University of Exeter representatives!
