Are you a deferred undergraduate student coming to study at Exeter and want to apply for University accommodation? Here’s everything you need to know.

When can I apply?

If you defer your place at the University of Exeter, please apply for accommodation in the year of your entry, from the application opening date. For example, students starting in September 2024 can apply from 8 April 2024. We recommend you apply as soon as you can after the application opening date as your deferred status means we can get straight on with processing your application, however you can apply up to 31 July and still qualify for our accommodation guarantee.

For details on how to apply, check out our Get Ready To Apply For University Accommodation blog.

When will I hear?

If you submit in May, a formal offer of accommodation will be sent to you from the end of June. Applications in June will be responded to in late July and for those we receive in July, offers will be sent in August before A Level Results Day.

Check the official dates for processing applications and when offers are sent on our About your offer webpage

Will I get my first choice?

Just like students who don’t defer, you’ll be guaranteed a room if your application is submitted by the guarantee deadline. However, while it is possible, it is not guaranteed that you’ll get your first choice or one of your top four preferences as it depends on how many applications we receive for each residence.

If we are unable to allocate you your first preference, we will try to allocate you to your second preference. If this is also full, we will look to allocate you to your third preference, and so on. If we cannot allocate you to any of your preferred residences, we will use the information you have provided in your application as a guide to choose the next most suitable residence.

See our website for a full explanation on our room allocation procedure
