Good morning everyone! We hope that you’ve had a good week and that those of you in the UK are keeping warm!

Last week we looked at the benefits of living in Exeter city centre. This week we will be discussing campus life. As you may already know, Exeter University  has three main campuses: Streatham, St Luke’s and the Penryn campus in Cornwall. Penryn campus have their own accommodation team, if you have any questions then please contact them directly. Today we will be looking at the advantages of living on our Exeter campuses.

Accommodation availability

It is a common misconception that all of our accommodation is on campus. Exeter offers campus-based learning as opposed to campus living. For the academic year 2020/21, 82% of our accommodation was on-campus and 18% off. The second stage of East Park which is planned for completion by September 2021, will add 578 new bed spaces for us (170 standard and 408 en-suite). Our walking distance map shows the distribution of our accommodation across Exeter.

Streatham

Streatham campus offers both Catered and Self-catered accommodation with shared rooms, standard, en-suite or studio living.

The Streatham Campus is located within a 20 minute walking distance of the city centre  There are a number of cafes and shops available on the Streatham Campus including Costa Coffee, the Grove Diner, the Ram Bar, Pret A Manger and the Market Place shop in addition to a number of eateries in academic buildings.

Streatham is also home to the Russell Seal Fitness Centre which students can join for a monthly membership fee. The fitness centre provides daily exercise classes, personal training, a gym and weights area and much more. There is a lovely heated outdoor swimming pool available at Cornwall House during April – September for students and visitors.

If you are into the nightlife around Campus then the Students’ Guild Lemon Grove often has a number of events, club nights and gigs planned. The Northcott theatre and campus cinema are also great places to find evening entertainment close to home!

St Luke’s

Those studying Education, Sport and Health Sciences and students of the Exeter Medical School are generally based at our St Luke’s campus and may prefer to apply for accommodation close to St Luke’s at our various residences.

Our Rowancroft residences include en-suite and standard  self-catered accommodation, these aren’t technically on campus but are only a five minute walk to St Luke’s. Nancherrow is located right next to St Luke’s.

Whilst it’s significantly smaller than Streatham, St Luke’s Campus has its own sports hall, health and fitness studio and indoor swimming pool as well as the Cross keys building to study, meet, eat and drink.

There is also a local bus service route which runs past St Luke’s, through the city centre and up to the Streatham Campus. It currently runs every 15 minutes through the day and half-hourly during the evening and at weekends.

Both our Exeter campuses have stunning award winning grounds, which are great to relax in, especially during the summer months. Whether you’re living on-campus or in the city centre, Exeter is small enough to get from point to point quickly and speedily.
