The Web Team builds a wide range of websites, from the core university website pages to sites for faculties and departments, campaigns, conferences and research institutes.

When requesting a new section or website it is important to consider the following:

Who is the primary audience for your content?

Web visitors can include prospective and current students, alumni, researchers, staff and global partners.

The website style options available depend on the audience you are focusing on and the content that you would like to include.

Most of the main university’s webpages use the Recruitment templates, which are in the corporate university style, and are maintained through T4, our web content management system.

Simple WordPress sites are also available to staff and postgraduate research students across the University, enabling them to set up their own simple website or blog. There is a standard University template with options to customise, to enable staff to easily build and manage their own sites.

For research websites the options available depend on whether the webpages are for an official institute, network or centre or for a research project or lab group. You can find more information about  research websites on our Web Support pages.

If your audience is internal/for staff the content may be better served by a SharePoint site, which can be requested via IT Services

What content would you like to include?

When requesting a new website please provide us with as much detail as possible about the content that you would like to include. A simple site map in Word or Excel would be helpful, detailing sub-pages, as appropriate.

Is your content mostly text, or did you want to feature images, embed videos or signpost relevant content on other pages?

If you are unsure how your content could be organised,  please look at our example pages demonstrating the Recruitment templates on the Web Support pages for ideas.

When would you like the content to go live?

If you have a deadline for the content to go live please give us as much notice as possible and have content ready to be added.

Some simple pages may have a relatively short turnaround time, but this is dependent on other web team priorities. Larger/more complex sites may be taken on as a Web Team project and assigned to a team of web officers.

How will the content be maintained?

For website governance all new websites must have an allocated Content Owner. The Content Owner is responsible for ensuring that the content is up to date.

Going forwards the Web team can help with minor updates to content via the Web team Inbox

However, if the webpages require frequent updates, T4 access may be provided to a small number of staff members, nominated by the Content Owner, to maintain the content. More information about T4 access requests
