I’m Lucy: I’ve been a Web Officer since 2017, and am currently the team lead for the undergraduate website, which is where prospective students can explore our degrees and find out about studying at Exeter.

The UG lead role involves coordinating updates to our portfolio of over 200 course webpages, liaising with colleagues in Marketing and Programme Development, and organising the annual ‘rollover’ to the new application year. I particularly enjoy carrying out user research and testing projects, to improve the site content, layout and design through our test and learn approach. I aim to improve the university application experience by making our web content more compassionate, helpful and accessible.

The great thing about the Web Team is we get to work on a variety of projects: in the past couple of years I’ve been involved in creating the new Department websites, SEO improvement work and the Clearing campaign, to name a few.

My specialisms are in copywriting/editing and user experience (UX) – how easy people find it to navigate and use our website, how it makes them feel and how reliable it is.

Helping prospective applicants decide if we’re the right university for them is important to me because I’m an Exeter alumna: I studied English here and met my closest friends, who are still a big part of my life.

When I’m not building webpages I’m making theatre: in 2020-21 I did an MA in Theatre Directing, training with renowned director Katie Mitchell at Royal Holloway University, and I’ve been directing as much as I can since then.

I’m an associate artist with social and environmental theatre collective Light The Night Theatre, and a founding member of Devon’s Awkward Pigeon Theatre, a professional theatre company supporting new writers, actors and creatives to develop their work.

Outside of work I love singing, pirates, birdwatching (it happens to everyone in their 30s) and being by the sea.
