If your work involves prospective or current students, you might have heard the term ‘UG rollover’ mentioned recently – but what does it mean?
It’s shorthand for when we roll the undergraduate recruitment website forward for a new year of applications. This happens at the start of March each year, and involves the whole web team in duplicating all 240 course pages, manually checking and updating entry requirements on each page, and coding the pages to link up the 2025 record with the 2026 one.

This means that prospective 2026 applicants can start researching what we offer ahead of UCAS opening in May, while students in Clearing this summer can still view the correct information for courses starting this September.
So not as cute as a dog trick, but an important piece of work to kick off the new recruitment cycle!
It’s also an opportunity for reflection: in the past year, we’ve made more than 100 significant updates to undergraduate course pages, and launched 30 new courses on the website.
Through our test and learn process, we’re about to start an extensive project to review the course page design in full. If you have ideas to improve the pages, get in touch at digitalteam@exeter.ac.uk.
