WORKSHOP
Legal Project Management (LPM) is increasingly recognised as a core skill for modern lawyers. As client expectations evolve and legal work becomes more complex, legal professionals are expected not only to provide technical legal advice but also to manage matters efficiently, collaborate across teams, control costs and deliver an excellent client experience.
In this interactive three-hour workshop, led by Helga Butcher, you will be introduced to the fundamentals of Legal Project Management and explore how project management principles can be applied to legal matters, transactions and disputes. Drawing on real-world examples from private practice, in-house legal teams and legal service providers, the session will demonstrate how lawyers can deliver legal work more effectively while creating greater value for clients.
Through practical exercises and discussion, you will gain hands-on experience of key project management techniques, including planning, stakeholder management, risk management, communication and matter delivery. The workshop will also explore how emerging technologies, including AI, are changing the way legal work is managed and delivered.
Whether you are considering a career in private practice, in-house legal teams, government or alternative legal services, this workshop will provide practical skills and insights that will help you stand out in an increasingly competitive legal profession.
Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions throughout the session and discuss how Legal Project Management can support their future careers.

Helga Butcher is a legal operations and transformation specialist with more than 20 years’ experience working across international law firms, financial institutions and alternative legal service providers.
Helga specialises in legal project management, legal operations and the design and delivery of large-scale transformation programmes. Throughout her career, she has helped legal teams improve efficiency, strengthen governance, manage legal spend and adopt new ways of working, including the effective use of legal technology and AI.
Helga is a certified PRINCE2 Practitioner and holds a recognised qualification in Legal Project Management. She is the author of a chapter on implementing Legal Project Management in the Globe Law and Business publication Next Stage Legal Project Management (2021).
A founding member of the Legal Project Management Network and member of its Steering Group, Helga actively supports the development of the legal operations profession through collaboration, mentoring and knowledge sharing. She is a regular speaker at legal industry conferences and events, where she shares practical insights on legal operations, legal transformation and the future delivery of legal services. Helga is passionate about helping the next generation of lawyers develop the commercial, operational and technological skills increasingly expected by clients and employers.
