We have two on-campus Career Zone spaces: at The Forum (Streatham Campus) and The Exchange (Penryn Campus).
The Career Zone teams are available in-person during term time, and are here to help answer all your careers-related questions, including help with booking appointments.

Create Your Future
Unique to Exeter, Create Your Future is a personal and professional development programme for first year students, giving you the opportunity to think about what you want from your future after University, and the practical steps to get there. Whether you haven’t started thinking about your future career plans and ideas yet, you have a clear idea in mind, or already have experience in a specific sector, the content of the programme will be customised for you. You will finish the programme with some practical next steps including signposting to Career Zone support that is relevant to you. Grand Challenges: Tackling 21st Century Challenges Together
Grand Challenges is a project week in which you work in interdisciplinary groups with other likeminded students to design innovative solutions to real world challenges. Top academics and invited speakers share their views and help you apply your skills and knowledge to a real-life problem. Grand Challenges helps you to develop transferrable skills, build towards the Exeter Award, and is a great way to make friends with other likeminded people, giving you the potential to make a difference. Career Mentor Scheme
Be mentored by an employer/alumnus for 6 months, with law specialist schemes including firms in the Junior Law Divisions of Devon & Somerset. Accelerate your confidence with a dedicated mentor by applying to be matched with an experienced professional to meet for monthly sessions during a 6-month period. Get your career questions answered and develop your CV, gain sector insights and 1:1 careers advice and guidance, and increase your confidence to make better decisions about your future career.
University of Exeter Internship Schemes
Discover the university’s internship schemes through Student Campus Partnership, or Student Business Partnership. Explore how you can gain a paid internship through the University’s supported schemes. Every year, there are opportunities to work on campus and with recommended employers to help you gain experience and build your CV. These opportunities are available to all UK and international students, offering flexible part-time work around your study. Hybrid and remote work opportunities are available, as well as full-time summer internships. Competitive rates of pay start from £12.60 per hour.
The Exeter Award
The Exeter Award is an extra and co-curricular employability achievement award open to all current undergraduates and taught postgraduate students, which is designed to enhance your employability and boost your CV; develop a range of skills that graduate recruiters are looking for; and demonstrate to employers the skills and attributes you have.
The Exeter Leaders Award
The Exeter Leaders Award is an extra and co-curriculuar award that recognises leadership roles you have undertaken during your time at the University of Exeter, and provides you with a framework to help you develop as a leader. Get in touch for more information with exeteraward@exeter.ac.uk.
The Global Leaders Experience
Want to boost your intercultural skills while meeting new people and exploring new cities? The Global Leaders Experience is an exciting opportunity to develop your global and intercultural skills as part of a week-long immersive experience. Varying in topic and theme, you will spend a week visiting a fascinating international city and be presented with challenges not ordinarily faced in the UK. You will be submerged into the local area and partnered with an NGO, charity or social enterprise to work together to create meaningful solutions to real-life challenges. By taking part you could improve and develop intercultural awareness; your teamwork and conflict resolution skills; creativity, problem solving and design thinking competencies. Ask An Alum
Ask An Alum is a simple way for you to receive custom careers advice via email from over 700 alumni. Connect with up to 2 alumni at a time, from a huge range of organisations, sectors and countries. You don’t need a set career in mind, just a desire to gather more information and gain insight into the careers you are considering. You can ask almost any type of career-related question. Increase your confidence and make better decisions about your future career.
Aspiring Teachers
Wondering if a career as a teacher is right for you? The Aspiring Teachers programme is a combination of guidance sessions, online resources and opportunities to gain education experience, and has been designed to help you gain an insight into the education and teaching sector, to help you decide whether this is a sector you wish to explore further. Green Consultants
Green Consultants is open to all students and will provide you with the additional skills and experience required to work in the highly competitive environmental and sustainability sector. There is an interactive programme of learning to train you as junior consultants, and you will gain practical experience working on live business projects with real clients within the university.
