#ExeterEmployability
Exeter Law School's Digital Employability Hub
Students at the University of Exeter Law School are invited to apply for our Law Mentoring scheme which has been created in partnership with the Devon and Somerset Junior Lawyers Division and Cornwall Junior Lawyers Division.
This four-month scheme aims to support you as you begin to explore options for your career, and to raise awareness of the opportunities with the reputable law firms in the Southwest.
Working with the local Junior Law Divisions, we have secured over 40 mentors for this scheme who are ready to support in areas such as:
· Exploring career pathways within law, especially in the South West
· Developing your CV
· Applying for placements
· Preparing for job interviews
· Answering your careers-related questions
· Am I Eligible?
This specialist Career Mentor Scheme is open to students who are studying a law-related degree, and who are in their second year and above. Students are only eligible to apply if they have not taken part in a Junior Law Division mentoring scheme previously.
Who are the Mentors?
The Mentors are employed professionals with at least 1 years’ experience in industry. They are all part of the Devon and Somerset or Cornwall Junior Law Divisions.
How Does It Work?
Please read through the all the profiles here, and select the mentors that you feel you would most like to be matched with. You will be asked to select your top 5 mentor choices, and to give detailed reasoning for your top 2 choices.
Applications are processed on a first come first served basis. Where your first and second choices are not available, the team will match you with the next available mentor from your top 5 choices and will contact you for an updated answer to why you have chosen them. If none of your top 5 choices are available, we will try to match you with the next best fit.
How To Apply
Complete the Application Form here. Ensure you answer the questions fully and provide a good amount of detail. If successful, the information you provide will be shared with your mentor and it’s therefore important that you make a good first impression. Applications will close at 23:55pm on 18th October 2026 or earlier if all mentors have been matched. Therefore, we highly recommend an early application.
If you are successful:
· The mentoring partnerships run from 2nd November 2026 and run until 28th February 2027.
· The University’s Career Mentor team will provide guidance to help you get started and will be available for support throughout your partnership.
· The expectation is that you will meet with your mentor for around 30-45 minutes every two weeks with a longer session of up to 1 hour when you meet for the first time. This can be online or in-person.
· Before being introduced to your mentor you will be asked to complete online training, to help you prepare.
· You will receive a Mentee Guide with useful tips and information.
· You will be invited to any relevant mentoring networking events run by the Career Mentor Scheme support team.
· At the end of the partnership you will be asked to complete feedback.
Remember, applications close on 18th October and mentors are matched on a first come first serve basis so to secure your perfect match, be sure to apply as soon as possible.
