We are delighted to relaunch the HASS PGR blog for a third year with a new name: SLIPWAY.
The name comes from Exeter’s close maritime connections: a slipway is a ramp by which vessels can enter the water. Year by year our postgraduate research students launch their brilliant ideas and deep lived experience into the world. This blog allows them to document all that happens as they head down the ‘slipway’.
SLIPWAY exists to tell YOUR research story – the brilliant postgraduate researchers across Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences at Exeter. In 2025 we shared a wide range of experiences from translocal theatre projects to overcoming imposter syndrome in novel AI research. In 2026 we want to feature every department and as many student life experiences as possible.
Launching this year on 20 April, you only have 6 weeks to get your story featured on the blog. This is a low time commitment which quickly leads to a great addition to your academic CV. You can share an aspect of your research or talk about an achievement or challenge in your life as an emerging researcher.
Two easy ways to take part:
- A short online interview with our editor
- Pitching and writing a 600-1000 word piece
Both routes result in a high-quality, professionally edited blog which you can share to demonstrate your skills in public engagement.
